i found this video incredibly infuriating and insightful at the same time. but before for watching it (which i strongly urge you to do if you have the time) is to check out this website.

this is monsanto's "pledge" which just amounts to a pile of bullshit:

this blogs name has been changed to squid inc. as well as the banner! i loved the old "life in the valley" but i will hopefully never ever reside in allendale michigan ever again! therefor i have no reason to call my blog "life in the valley" =). i will continue going to gv but i have moved out of my on campus apartment and will be moving into a house in july! sweet, i'm totally stoked.

so i had to change my blogs name. and this is what i came up with. actually i didn't, my boyfriend did. it is based on the nickname he likes to call me: squid. this is because he likes to point out that i have no bones or muscle, just tentacles so he calls. and since squid's ink, he calls me that too from time to time. now everybody calls me squid, and by everyone i mean my roommate nay nay.

anyways, at dinner yesterday (i went to outback steakhouse for the first time, and had my very first onion blossom, mmmmm) we were talking about the obama tee-shirts a made like forever ago, and he suggested that if a started a business it should be called "squid inc. squid i n c period" as he put it. clever no? alli thought it was a good idea and so do i. i think i am going to screen print that into all my pictures from now on.

i first read about this designer, mary myers, on bleach black, then i found a video about her after visiting her site and wanting to know a little bit more about her and her line. this is so totally rad and inspiring, something like what i want to be doing someday. i bet her bags are super expensive, but the idea of re-using vintage leather jackets for handbags is so dope i think i just might have to dyi something out of something vintage soon.

we all remember when will.i.am. was with the black eyed peas and they released this. i don't care what anybody says i love this song and can recite the entire song verbatim. will.i.am. was also the man behind this campaign song. and is also responsible for this video.

my newest shirt idea:i drew a mock up for the squid i want to screen print on the back shoulder. the actual squid wont really have much shading because its hard to do so with the supplies i have. then i want to get some black rit dye and splot some ink blots on the back. on the front i want to print 'squid' on the left breast.

dope? not dope? i think dope, but i may be the only one.

yeah so thakoon for target soooooooon. here's a little sneak peak of some of the clothing in the line. you should go to target.com and watch this video of thakoon and get excited. these pics are thanks to nylon mag, be sure to click on the picture to make it bigger.
love love love the mix of patterns and colors. i would wear everything i have seen so far and i am so excited that this fairly new designer is starting to get some major street cred for his amazing designs. i will prolly have zero money by the time the line comes out on december 28. thankfully it comes out after christmas so i can spend some christmas money on it, its just going to be hard to narrow down what i want to get with what little money i have!!! maybe i will come up with a good plan to make some money over christmas break....any ideas? at any rate you should mos def be excited for thakoon's go international line and to help spur this excitement you should watch his spring 2009 fashion show and visit his site. dooooppppeeennneeessssssss.

me and cher went shopping at tarjay the other day. as we are looking at clothes i say how much i really want a boyfriend cardigan but we can't find any. after trying on a few things we head to the shoes and then decide to find my mom and head out, and as we are making our way back to the front of the store what do we see? BOYFRIEND CARDIGANS. but there is a catch. they are in the maternity section. no matter. when life gives you lemons, you take the xs cardi and say dope. and since i got some meds for my impetigo i had a ten dollar gift certificate from the pharmacy for filling out a new prescription, i gleefully purchased my maternity boyfriend cardi, and a purple tee.later that night i head over to my friend hanna's house. i don't know how hanna got the special skill of finding the best garage sales, and the dopest clothes at thrift stores, but if she figured out how to bottle it up and sell it as a magical serum you dump in your tea and drink so that you too can find the coolest clothes, then she would be a millionaire. she found these boots along with a tan pair at a garage sale, and i guess she got them for free. i somehow convinced her to let me "borrow" them for awhile. i am hoping she will forget about them after awhile. especially because i purchased some grey knee socks to wear with them from forever twenty one. here are all my duds put together. the only problem is what to wear on the bottom. of course in the winter i can wear my skinny jeans, but in the fall i would really like my socks to be seen peeking above my boots. something that you might see from toast in the fall. something british-y. so i came up with two ideas.
my mom didn't seem to like the first version a whole lot, but i think the second one looks a bit librian, or school teacher-y, especially with the bun. any thoughts or ideas?

i've always kind of liked rainboots because i felt like they looked very english, and since i kind of want to be english it seems like buying a pair would be the next step. however, they seemed to get really popular in the past few years so my interest kind of dissipated after that. but last year when i was in the valley i found how much of an asset they were to your wardrobe (and prolly why they are so popular in england). before that i always just thought of them as a quirky accessory to your outfit. but in the valley, there is a reason everybody has them, and it is because when it rains (which it often is) there are puddles everywhere. or when it is supposed to be spring but keeps snowing for god knows why so there is sloppy snow everywhere you really want something other than your ugg boots (another boot i used to like before they got overpopulated, and unlike rain boots i doubt i will every revert back to liking them) to trudge around in. so this year i think i will purchase a pair of rain boats, because they really are a necessity. here are some options. these make me think uber english with the herringbone. $29.99 at target.simple black ones for $19.99 at target.hunter green ones from aerie at $39.50.the original hunter boot in yellow (or in green or black) for a whopping $125 at piperlime.
and of course you need a cute outfit to where with your boots! i have this great coat that i got from h&m in paris. i would pair it with some drainpipe jeans or some cute knee high socks depending on the weather. and you would carry an umbrella. preferably this one.

ok i don't care what anyone says, i have been a fan of kings of leon since i first heard their song four kicks like two years ago. i don't care if they have greasy hair. which it looks like they got hair cuts, except for the drummer. and yes i like the lead singers voice. and i like how the drummer can multi task aka sing and drum at the same time. so deal. and listen to slash watch this.

p.s. why didn't anybody tell me about season five of project runway. i feel like a fool! now i gotta catch up on youtube.
